When contracts are processed, artists are automatically matched using:

1. **Exact Name Match** - Direct name comparison
2. **Identifier Match** - Spotify ID, Apple Music ID, IPI, etc.
3. **AI Semantic Matching** - Fuzzy matching for name variations

### AI-Powered Deduplication

When a potential duplicate is detected, the AI evaluates:

* Name similarity and variations
* Identifier overlap
* Associated entity relationships

The system automatically merges duplicates when confident, preserving all data from both records.

## Artist Analytics

### Career Overview

* Total recordings
* Total compositions
* Release timeline
* Revenue summary

### Entity Relationships

An artist may be linked to multiple entities because their career spans different business relationships over time:

* **Different labels** — An artist might sign with one label early in their career, then move to another
* **Multiple publishers** — Different compositions may be administered by different publishers
* **Various roles** — The same artist might have recording deals, publishing deals, and production agreements with different companies

These relationships come from the contracts in your system. Each contract where an artist appears creates or confirms an entity relationship. The **Timeline** tab shows these relationships chronologically; see [Agreement Timeline](/projects/crm/agreement-timeline) for details and how it differs from [IP Groups](/projects/contracts/ip-groups).

## Roles and Credits

Artists can have multiple roles:

| Role                | Description                         |
| ------------------- | ----------------------------------- |
| **Primary Artist** | Main performing artist on recording |
| **Featured Artist** | Featured guest on recording |
| **Writer**          | Songwriter or composer              |
| **Producer**        | Record producer                     |
| **Mixer**           | Mixing engineer                     |
