What is Data Categorisation?

Statement data is automatically categorised so it can be used consistently for insights (e.g. revenue by type, by store, by territory) and for upstream mapping to contracts (e.g. comparing revenue to royalty rates or reversion terms). Categorisation is an abstraction: raw labels from distributors and publishers are normalised into stable categories and identifiers. You do not configure the rules; categorisation runs during statement processing. This page describes the resulting categories you will see in the platform (Statement Details, Insights, and exports). It does not describe how categorisation is performed.

Revenue Categories

Each revenue line is assigned a revenue type. Recording and publishing statements use different type lists.

Stores (Recording Statements)

Store or DSP names from recording statements are normalised into store groups so that different labels for the same platform (e.g. “Spotify AB”, “Spotify”) appear under one name. You will see consistent store names in Insights (e.g. “Revenue by Stores”) and in exports. Examples of store groups include Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes, Amazon, YouTube, Deezer, Tidal, TikTok, Meta Platforms, and many others.

Territories

Territory names and codes from statements are normalised to standard territory codes (e.g. ISO country codes). That allows revenue to be aggregated and compared by territory across statements and against contract territory grants. You will see territory codes and names in Statement Details, Insights (e.g. “Revenue by Territory”), and in exports.

Source Groups (Publishing Statements)

Publishing statement lines are assigned a source group that describes the type of use or distribution. These groups are used for insights and contract mapping. Examples of source groups include:
