Overview
Every extracted data point includes citations that link back to the original contract text. Citations are the bridge between structured data and the source document, allowing you to verify any extraction against the actual legal language.
Structured data fields are by definition an abstraction of legal language. When in doubt, use citations and the actual contract text to validate the structured data against your own interpretation.
Recognizing Citations
Look for the asterisk icon (✱) next to extracted values. This icon appears on virtually every data point across all extraction types — from royalty rates to party names to date values.
What Citations Include

| Text | The exact quote from the contract supporting the extraction |
| Page Number | Where in the document the information appears |
| Section Reference | The article, clause, or paragraph reference |
Using Citations
Click any citation icon to view the supporting text. This allows you to:
- Verify the AI’s interpretation against the source document
- Navigate quickly to the relevant contract section
- Audit maintain a trail for extracted data
- Resolve ambiguities when structured data seems unclear
Make it a habit to spot-check citations on the fields most critical to your workflow. This is especially useful during initial contract onboarding when verifying extraction quality.
